Moxibustion

Moxa, is a traditional Chinese medicine technique, which offers a variety of health benefits by stimulating specific acupuncture points through the application of heat.

Heat therapy is the application of heat to the body to relieve pain. It can take the form of a hot cloth, hot water, ultrasound, heating pad, hydrocollator packs, whirlpool baths, infrared (IR) heat therapy, and whatsoever. Heat is beneficial to those with soft tissue injury, noninfectious arthritis. As a most commonly used in rehabilitation, the therapeutic effects of heat include increasing the extensibility of collagen tissues, decreasing joint stiffness, reducing pain, relieving muscle spasms, reducing inflammation, edema, and aids in the postacute phase of healing, and increasing blood flow. The increased blood flow to the affected area provides proteins, nutrients, and oxygen for better healing.

Moxa is a traditional form of heat therapy.

What is moxa?

Moxa is made from the dried leaves of the mugwort plant (Artemisia vulgaris). In our clinic we use moxa to promote healing and restore balance in the body. Here are some of the key benefits of moxibustion:

Improves Circulation

Moxa's heat can help to boost blood flow, increasing circulation in targeted areas. This improved circulation can relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and help the body heal more quickly.

Relieves Pain

Moxibustion is commonly used to alleviate chronic pain, including joint and muscle pain, arthritis, and lower back pain. The heat penetrates deep into the muscles, helping to reduce tension and soreness.

Supports Digestive Health

Moxa is often used to treat digestive issues such as bloating, constipation, and indigestion. By improving circulation and promoting the movement of energy (qi), it supports the digestive system in processing food more efficiently.

Strengthens the Immune System

Regular moxibustion sessions can help strengthen the body's defenses against illness. It stimulates the body’s vital energy, enhancing its ability to ward off colds, flu, and other infections.

Reduces Stress and Promotes Relaxation

The warmth from moxa can be deeply relaxing, helping to calm the nervous system. This relaxation can relieve stress, anxiety, and fatigue, leaving the individual feeling refreshed and balanced.

Menstrual and Reproductive Health

Moxibustion is widely used to support women's health, particularly in relieving menstrual cramps, regulating menstrual cycles, and addressing issues such as infertility. It’s also known to help turn breech babies in the late stages of pregnancy.

Helps with Cold-Related Conditions

In traditional Chinese medicine, moxa is used to treat conditions related to cold or damp environments, such as joint pain, cold extremities, and fatigue. It helps warm the body and dispel cold, bringing relief to those suffering from cold-related symptoms.

Promotes Faster Healing of Injuries

By increasing circulation and stimulating energy flow, moxa can accelerate the healing of injuries such as sprains, strains, and bruises.

Balancing Energy (Qi)

Moxa is designed to restore the balance of qi (the body’s vital energy) and can help treat imbalances or blockages in energy flow that lead to various health issues. It’s an effective tool for harmonizing the body’s energy, resulting in better overall health and vitality

Enhances Overall Well-Being

Many people report an enhanced sense of well-being, improved energy levels, and better mood after moxibustion sessions. The treatment has both physical and emotional healing effects, leaving individuals feeling rejuvenated.
